UM Healthcare Trust
Introduction

UM Healthcare Trust, (regd. under the Trust Act, 1882), is a non profit entity established in 2004 with the objective to extend affordable healthcare services in Pakistan. Since 2008, as a first step, UM Healthcare has established and operated a day-care hospital at Zahidabad, on Chargulli-Bakhshali Road (off Rustam Road), District Mardan. So far it has treated over 300,000 patients for free . An additional 60,000 affected persons have been assisted (a) during the Swat IDP crisis of 2009 (in Mardan District) and (b) after the Super Floods of 2010 (in Charsadda, Noushera and Mardan Districts) by holding medical camps for the sick and by providing relief through supply of clean potable water, cooked food, food provisions, bedding, other household items, farm equipment and the like. The total value of relief work exceeds Rs. 50 million, all provided by donors from all over the world.

UM Healthcare services have been extensively covered by local and International media including VoA, CNN, BBC Scotland, America’s most listened-to radio 'NPR', Daily Asahi Shimbun (Japan), Al-Jazeera TV, Samaa TV, Daily Express News, among many others. Our work in rural Mardan has also been quoted in a book (2012-USA) titled, “Disrupt” by Bill Jensen. It is a matter of great satisfaction that this is the only study from Pakistan in that book.

The Trust has worked closely with local and international donors including USAID, Google and ISIF Asia Foundation, among others, for the betterment of healthcare in rural Pakistan.

UM Healthcare has won many awards including DHL YES Award 2007 for innovation in rural Healthcare, mBillionth Award 2010 for best mHealth Application in South Asia, chosen as one of 100 Social Disrupters in 2012 by study in USA and most recently, recognized by Engro Foundation as “I AM THE CHANGE” on 7th Feb. 2019

Some of software programs developed by the Trust for the benefit of patients stand replicated by other charities operated in the country.
